Kia ora Visitor, Welcome to our May newsletter, with some exciting new Professional Development Courses as well as a reminder of recently launched events!

All upcoming PLD opportunities through ATANZ - include 3 new offerings
It’s exciting times for ATANZ members, as Helen Bayldon has agreed to facilitate a two 2-day Introductory PODD workshops at several locations in New Zealand. The date for Sam Brydon’s previously announced 2nd LAMP day online session ‘2025 Moving Forwards with LAMP Words for Life - Online course’ has now been confirmed. You can find all details to register in this newsletter. All three new events are now open for registrations on our website. https://www.atanz.org.nz/events 2-day Introductory PODD' workshops presented by New Zealand based Helen Bayldon on 1st & 2nd October in Christchurch and 16th & 17th October in Auckland!Registrations are now open to learn from Helen Bayldon, an Auckland-based speech-language therapist and researcher. This workshop will assist participants to understand the theory and practice related to PODD communication systems. It will provide information about the evidence base for aided language stimulation, and strategies to assist language learning for augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). The 2-day introductory workshop provides theory, video case examples and supported practice, so participants can develop their confidence in understanding and using PODD communication systems. This workshop will be of interest to speech therapists, occupational therapists, teachers or family members of children who have complex communication needs. Location and date: Christchurch - 1 & 2 October 2025, Pītau-Allenvale School Auckland - 16 & 17 October 2025, Jetpark Auckland airport hotel
Time schedule: Day 1 -9.00 am registration for a 9.30 am start - 5.30 pm Day 2 -9.00 am start - 5.00 pm 40 min Lunch break.

Moving Forwards with LAMP Words for Life - Online course presented by Dr Sam Brydon 26th NovemberTickets are now available for this online session which is a follow up to the LAMP therapeutic approach for those who have completed the 2025 Online LAMP Words for Life & the LAMP therapy approach’ 6 weeks course. This additional 4 - hour online training session will move beyond the basics of the LAMP therapeutic approach and cover additional information for LAMP practitioners. This session will cover additional skills and strategies needed to implement and support LAMP Worsd for Life successfully. There will also be some time to cover any other issues that you have been struggling with as a LAMP practitioner. Numbers will be capped at 35, and the workshop will not be recorded. This workshop is including speech language therapists, teachers, teacher aides and parents working with autistic children with diverse communication needs - but again please be aware, completion of the ATANZ 6 - week Online LAMP Words for Life & the LAMP therapy approach course is a prerequisite for this additional session. (You can still enrol for the second 2025 October/ November offering of the 6 online weeks course, see below)

Reminder of all other current 2025 ATANZ personal development opportunities!By now you may be well aware that this year ATANZ is offering a total new online learning opportunity with the well-known content specialist Sam Brydon. With the first May/June offering now well under way, you can still register for the 2nd course. 2025 October /November offering - Online LAMP Words for Life & the LAMP therapy approach for Aotearoa/ New Zealand.This online course is specifically developed in and for NZ, covers the first day of the 2-day LAMP course, and has now been made available as an online course in NZ, comprising of three 2-hour sessions spread across 6 weeks, and offered twice yearly. The 2nd round schedule:
You will be finished in time to join the additional ‘2025 Moving Forwards with LAMP WFL- online course’ on the 26thNovember) Just like the first course this workshop will be fully participatory, with group discussions, practice elements, small group work, and action plans to put new knowledge and skills into practice. Support will be provided via an online chat thread in between workshops so that participants can give feedback about how they have implemented their action plan, engage in peer support, and receive feedback / guidance from the presenter, Sam Brydon. Numbers will be capped at 25 per workshop, and workshops will not be recorded. This course is suitable for all professionals and whānau supporting autistic children who use AAC. Registrations will close on the 7th of October or when sold out - Places are limited to 25 participants! Presented by Jacki - Mayne Davis, Auckland, 24 SeptemberThis is a 5-hour, face to face workshop, suitable for teachers of PMLD learners, VNTs, CDT OTs and SLTs, school-based OTs and SLTs, day program coordinators/teachers. Whānau and their therapy teams are also welcome. This workshop is the first of its kind in Aotearoa New Zealand: not only will you be getting hands-on experience with the latest technology and trialling practical ways to help people with complex bodies use it, in this workshop you will be directly linked to the curriculum (Te Whāriki and the New Zealand Curriculum) and to therapy goals. Other opportunities for learningTalkLink Professional Development opportunity with Dr Sam Brydon, ‘Coaching for communication partners’.Dr Sam Brydon has developed a fabulous workshop from her doctoral research. This 2-day course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to confidently coach the communication partners of children who use AAC. There is a particular focus on parents and caregivers, but the skills can be generalised to any other significant communication partners, including education staff.
