Thank you everyone for a wonderful year. We hope you have some lovely plans ahead and return in 2025 recharged and excited for a new year. 

With that in mind, we wanted to let you know about some excited professional development to consider to kick off the new year.

Confirmed Professional Development Courses for early 2025

Rethinking AAC and AAC practice with Erin Sheldon and Dr David Niemeijer

We are excited to announce this 4-hour workshop suitable for SLPs, OTs, and school AAC coaches. Whānau and clinical students are also welcome to join.  Tickets are available for Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. These workshops will be held in late February, and tickets need to be purchased by 17 February.  The workshops will only run if we get sufficient numbers, so early booking is greatly appreciated.

This workshop is designed for professionals with medium to advanced AAC knowledge. That said, AAC users, family members, and others with strong AAC knowledge are very welcome too. Most of the content is geared towards supporting AAC users who are still developing language (vocabulary, syntax, and grammar), irrespective of their age. This will also be a great chance to learn more about the Proloquo app.

New Online LAMP Course for Aotearoa/ New Zealand
Words for Life & the LAMP therapy approach Presented by Dr Sam Brydon 

In response to feedback, the first day of the 2-day LAMP course will now be available as an online course in NZ, comprising of three 2-hour sessions spread across 6 weeks, and offered twice yearly. 

We are really excited that the first offering has now been planned and confirmed for May - June next year. 

It is intended that the workshop will be fully participatory, with group discussions, practice elements, small group work, and action plans to put new knowledge and skills into practice. Support will be provided via an online chat thread in between workshops so that participants can give feedback about how they have implemented their action plan, engage in peer support, and receive feedback / guidance from the presenter, Sam Brydon. Numbers will be capped at 25 per workshop, and workshops will not be recorded.

This course is suitable for all professionals and whānau supporting autistic children who use AAC.
